I will apologize ahead of time if this sounds like an advertisement for the book. I received an ARC of this book from the author. By the time I was at the 3% mark, the book had me hooked. I HAD to find out where Daphne was heading and what she hoped to accomplish. By the time I made it to 15%, I had fallen in love with Adam, Lord Hartmoor, Sir Hunk, Hart, Heart, Lord Sexy, or whatever pet word you'd like to call him (I have a couple of favorites that I have to keep to myself as my brand of sexy usually gets my reviews censored). Personally, I want to call him to my bedroom and often. That is how incredibly delicious this "Villain" is. And he gets better as the book goes on. So good in fact, that I'm trying to figure out how large the bribe to Mistress Vale has to be to read #2 now instead of having to wait. Most of the book is set in a Scottish castle, although Daphne refers to it as a palace in a couple of places. I've been in a couple of those huge castles, set on bluffs overlooking the sea as to protect them from enemies who would attack them. You will be able to picture the castle thanks to the vivid descriptions of the furnishings and gardens. Don't be mistaken, this book is a bit different than Ms. Vale's other books, but you won't be disappointed. You can count on an amazingly alpha male, a gorgeous, brave, and incredibly stubborn redheaded woman who is putty in his hands, a share of spanking and punishment, a huge share of hot sex, another huge share of seductive dialogue that leads into the hot sex, and of course, as is normal in Period Great Britain, family problems and the opinions of the "Ton". I can guarantee that you will love the twists and turns in this book. The steam literally rises out of the Kindle as you read, and if you can put this down and walk away from it for longer than coffee-brewing time, you just aren't female. :-) This is the guy we all want to ourselves and once again, Victoria Vale has not disappointed. I would recommend this book to anyone over 18 who loves hot, seductive sex combined with an alpha who wants what he wants along with a woman who is quite willing to give it to him in order to extract her pleasure too! Beware that there is erotic asphyxiation, sometimes known as breath play, in this book. I am a huge fan of this type of play, but I know some people are not. You also see the negative side of the Ton in the form of Daphne's brother who is actually the cause of all that happens in this book.Fives Stars seems such a paltry reward for such a great book, but since I have to abide by the rules, fives stars it is.

I also received an ARC from the author in exchange for a review. And WOW, this book was fantastic!!! I couldn’t put it down and read it in a day. In all seriousness, this is one of the best books I’ve read in a while. I was engaged with the story and characters from beginning to end. Adam and Daphne’s relationship is crazy, and both are highly complex characters with definite issues. However, as a reader i was rooting for them from the start of the book to the cliffhanger ending. I can’t wait to read the next installment!!!

Holy moly, I LOVED everything about this book from beginning to end, and I am craving The Dove NOW! Yup, this book ends on a cliffhanger, but I promise you it is 100% worth the fall. I have never both loved and hated a character so much as Adam. He's a complete jerk (and that's being nice). He's broody, ruthless and just downright mean at times, but he's also loyal and incredibly loving towards those in his care. He had me back and forth between love and hate so much that my head was spinning and I loved it. And then there's Daphne who you can't help but admire and love. She, too, is loyal, but it's her resilience that stood out the most to me. What she endures would break most women of that time period, probably this one, too, and she never gives up despite being ruined and humiliated. What's so beautiful about this story is what Adam awakens in Daphne. She learns so many important things about herself and her family, and it completely transforms her. She's a strong girl at the beginning and finishes a stronger woman. The interactions between her and Adam are both brutal and tender. I found myself with tears in my eyes when Adam would reduce Daphne to nothing, but also when he took care of her. I don't think I've ever read a book that gave me so many warring emotions. The Villain is told in Daphne's POV and I am sooooo looking forward to getting into Adam's head in The Dove. This is truly a beautiful story and the way it unfolds is masterful. If you want all the feels while getting hot and bothered, look no further!

This is a spectacular book and highly recommended. Very early on in the book one is hooked. This is a hot and steamy novel, but with a very strong narrative- that is to say not just a lot of random encounters. Lady Daphne’s family has been destroyed and ruined in the eyes of the Ton by The Earl of Hartmoor (Adam) and Daphne travels to his castle in Scotland to discover the reasons for the man’s hatred and need for vengeance. The narrative carefully leads us through this mystery. The characters are carefully drawn and believable. This is book 1 of a duology and is presented from Daphne’s point of view, exploring her thoughts and feelings. Adam’s emotions and feelings are not explored to the same extent. However, the second book is apparently to be told more from Adam’s (The Earl of Hartmoor’s) point of view. If you buy The Villain there is a link to get a short novella called ‘Hart’ which fleshes out Adam’s character and the background to the events that instigated Adam’s need for revenge. This novella is also brilliant. I just love all of Victoria Vale’s book - she has a wonderful style and weaves a good story.I received an ARC for an impartial and honest review. I highly recommend this book - it’s a really good read.

Lady Daphne Fairchild braves the journey from London to the wilds of Scotland alone with one purpose in mind: confront the man who purposely and methodically set out to ruin the men of her family. Adam the Earl of Kilmead has a proposal for Daphne thirty days and nights in his bed of this is the price she must pay to learn the truth of the dark lord’s vendetta against her family. Yet, when she accepts the offer. This is the first part of a duology & I can’t wait to read the second part. I couldn’t put it down. The pace is fast, the characters so very well fleshed. The more time Daphne spends with Adam the more she learns why he set out to ruin her family & she also learns an awful lot about herself. He calls her his little dove & by the end of the book she tells Niall to thank Adam for setting her free. Adam is a alpha male but there’s so much more to him, Daphne is a strong stubborn woman, their verbal spars are interesting & the sex is HOT. I just loved it My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

What would you do if your sister was ruined by a man and that man's sister ended up on your doorstep??? Some might be magnanimous but then the title The Villain would be misleading.Adam is everything you think a villain would be, cruel, unforgiving and hell bent on revenge. He also loves his sister and realizes that when he rips the veils from Daphne's eyes, she will no longer be innocent (not that she will ever be innocent when he is done with her).He uses her, but does not abuse her, does no hurt her in a way that she cannot recover, but will her heart survive the 30 days she pledges to him for 30 thousand pounds and the truth. And once she has that truth, can the 30 thousand pounds make it all right again.Once again Ms. Vale has written a book where you do not quite know what side you are going to be on. Who will you root for? She draws you in and creates so many grey areas that you sympathize with characters you never thought you would. Well done and well written and I cannot wait to read The Dove

My favorite hero is a villain! I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a review. I was hooked from the end of chapter one. What do you do if someone has been systematically destroying your family? Daphne Fairchild took a chance and rode to Scotland to confront Adam, Lord Hartmoor. Adam will only tell Daphne why he has destroyed her family if she spends thirty days and nights at his castle. In the end, she will get a bank draft for thirty thousand pounds but will also be ruined.I loved the characters but didn't think that Adam was a Villian. He is extracting revenge for what Daphne's brother Bertram has done to his sister. Adam is defending his sister. I can't wait for the next book!

I received ARC copy in return for review. I liked the book it was well written. I liked both characters from the start never saw Adam as the villain he is supposed to be. I have these minor objections.POV for most of the book was hers (until epilogue) I always feel like something is being missed when you only know one person's view (I am nosey that way). Some parts of the story might be triggers for some. There is forced seduction and mention of rape done by her brother (who is an ass of the worst kind). I am not a fan of erotic asphyxiation but it flows with the story. My last point of contention is it's a "cliffhanger" I am not a fan because now I have to wait dang you Victoria.Overall it's a quick interesting story most will enjoy.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. I could not put this down. Adam is such a mystery!!! Why is he ruining Daphne's family? She's on a mission to find out. This story takes us on quite a journey and her life will never be the same. Victoria is able to add many layers to this mystery. Is he really a "Villain"....I don't think so. I'm normally not a fan of books that continue but I love how Victoria writes and cannot wait for The Dove and maybe more that will come from this story.

strap in and hold on for a hot, steamy, and emotional ride!! Daphne is bold, sassy, and vulnerable and Adam is heartless at times, Moody, and oh so sexy. Daphne goes to confront Adam to find out why he destroyed her family and got more than she bargained for. this story has so many twists and turns that you will not expect and will not be able to put down the book until you see what happens next. I cannot wait until The Dove comes out to see where Daphne and Adam's story goes.

Wow! What a captivating read! I was hooked from the first page and had to keep reading to the end. Yes, this was a hot read but it was so much more, I felt the varying emotions that Daphne experienced as secrets were slowly revealed. The setting, a castle in the highlands of Scotland with various passages and hidden walkways, was certainly atmospheric. As for Adam, Lord Hartmoor, what a complex character, not someone you would easily forget. I’m really looking forward to reading the next book.

Trust me, you will love it. Cant wait for book 2 to come out. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reading Copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A Villian. A Virgin. Lies. Secrets. Revenge. Because I do not want to give away the story since the excitement of reading this intense story would be diminished, I will just say, holy crap is it good. Adam and Daphne’s dancing around each other and their powerful interludes make you want to keep reading to find out what will happen next. An old castle, hidden passages and dark secrets are brought to life. I need to know how Adam is going to fix this messed up affair.I received a complimentary copy from the author.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for a review. OMG!!! I love Victoria's books and so far this just may be my favorite. It has the excitement I love. All the sex that I love and even dirtier sex. The story line kept me intrigued and I did not want to put this book down. The exchange between Adam and Daphne kept me reading and the anticipation of the secret of the Fairchild men kept me on pins and needles to finally know the secret of what devastated Adam and his family, I just did not want to put it down. I am so looking forward to the next in the series.

Worth the wait! Adam’s first appearance in the story took me by surprise. You will automatically believe he is the villain but the more you understand his story behind the haughty attitude you realize he’s not the villain but neither is his little dove, Daphne. The story line is wonderful but very blunt. Daphne comes off as being a strong woman but she is constantly second guessing herself. Not the strong confident woman she first appeared to be. Adam, however, stayed the same throughout. He is very blunt in what he says, what he wants, what he expects and is no bleeding heart at the end. You end up at the end of the story not only holding your breath but rooting for both of them to go get what they really want! Lots of twists and turns to keep you wondering to the very end.

Review of The VillainA mad dash towards Scotland, starts Lady Daphne on a quest for the truth of the ruination of her family. In the cave of an ancient Scottish castle, Daphne finds more than the truth, she finds not only her deepest and darkest secrets brought into the light, but also the truth about her family, all by the hand of ‘The Villain’ Mistress Victoria have done again, made a character we both love and hate, all at the same time, but Adam was also on this side of sinfully gorgeous. Daphne was not only a strong and very capable female lead, but also had a very strong development throughout the book. As I was introduced to ‘The Villain’ I began to see the story line emerge from the darkness of the ancient castle and the plot ranged from absolutely hating Adam Hartmoor to toe curling in humiliation and delight at the same time. Another book I can highly recommend, though I suggest a fan be kept close and maybe a cold shower after reading the book. 😉

Wow! A little dark, a little edgy and a whole lot erotic. When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t too sure. I had a love/hate thing for Adam. He has it out for Daphne’s family and gets his revenge. Daphne came for answers and boy did she get them. The two of them together are very intense. I can’t wait for the next book. I really enjoy Victoria’s writing.

Historical smut that does and doesn’t quite work. The not quite is the pacing, it misses the lead up to the situation that results in the h immediately selling herself to the H. Since this story is a 2-parter, assumption is the pace will improve now that other characters causing this have been brought in. Not having it upfront diminishes the emotional investment in the h which is needed in a tale like this. The quite is simple - hot Alpha H, out of wedlock cute kid, shades of crazy lady in the attic sister, and fucking.
